Homemade With Love Face Mask
A portion of the proceeds from the Homemade with Love Mask Project is used to create masks for volunteers at nonprofit organizations and special needs individuals. Local artisans in Maryland, who are in need of an income, handcraft the masks in their home studios.
The Science Behind the Mask
In order to address the needs of the current Pandemic for a safe face mask that can be worn for every day wear, considerable scientific informational research went into the design and materials for creating the Homemade With Love filtered cloth mask. The Homemade With Love facemask mirrors the researchers findings in its materials and style. And it is compliant with the Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines for homemade masks.
The fashion fabric or public face of the mask is made out of high-thread count cotton and the private side of the mask is lined with a white cotton fabric. Cotton is a highly absorbent fiber and it has a cooling effect on the skin. Sandwiched between the cotton layers is a permanent electrostatic microfiber filter, which blocks most particles. Elastic is used for the earpieces, which contributes to the fit and the comfort of the mask.
The mask is modeled after the surgical mask, which is worn in medical settings, and allows for adequate airflow. The pleated mask molds with soft folds across the face, gentle to the skin, protective, and allows the wearer to breathe properly. The mask is washable, but it cannot be bleached or come in contact with fabric softeners. Bleach will fade the print and fabric softener will degrade the filter.
